The Department's Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC) Sustainability and Efficiency Task Force held its first meeting. The task force is a group of energy and environmental experts who advise Secretary Napolitano on ways to bolster national security by maximizing resource efficiency.

Secretary Janet Napolitano announced nearly $78 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Transit Security Grant Program (TSGP) funding for approximately 240 new law enforcement officers at 15 transit systems across the country to enhance the nation's ability to guard against acts of terrorism.
