Secretary Napolitano discussed the Department's coordinated efforts against large-scale organized crimes such as drug trafficking at the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Asset Forfeiture Program National Leadership Conference on July 23, 2009 in Washington, D.C.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano marked the fifth anniversary of the issuance of the 9/11 Commission Report by releasing a progress report outlining advancements in the Department’s capabilities to protect against and respond to acts of terrorism and other threats on July 22, 2009.

Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano will travel to Washington State on July 27. She will visit the 2010 Olympics Coordination Center in Bellingham, the Pacific Highway and Peace Arch border crossing, and the Coast Guard Integrated Support Command in Seattle.

Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano met with U.S. governors at the National Governors Association Conference in Biloxi, Miss., to discuss Gulf Coast emergency preparedness efforts, H1N1 flu and the Pass ID secure identification legislation—designed to fulfill the 9/11 Commission’s recommendation to establish national standards for secure driver’s licenses.

Homeland Security Deputy Secretary Jane Holl Lute will travel to Germany, England and Sweden July 19-24 to strengthen ties with our European counterparts and enhance our collaboration in combating terrorism, illegal migration and other global security issues.
