The Departments of Homeland Security and Defense announced an initiative to grant select state and major urban area fusion center personnel access to classified terrorism-related information residing in DoD’s classified network. Under this initiative, select fusion center personnel with a federal security clearance will be able to access specific terrorism-related information.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano today announced $35.4 million in funding for three airport security projects funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)—designed to enhance the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) efforts to strengthen security at airports while creating jobs across the country.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano commemorated the milestone of more than 52,000 American military service members becoming U.S. citizens since Sept. 11, 2001, by joining Department of Defense Secretary Robert Gates and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Alejandro Mayorkas at a naturalization ceremony for 31 military men and women today at the Pentagon.

The Department of Homeland Security and the Seneca Nation of Indians formalized an agreement to develop a Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI)-compliant Enhanced Tribal Card (ETC)—signed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Assistant Commissioner Thomas S. Winkowski and Seneca Nation President Barry E. Snyder, Sr., at a ceremony at Liberty Park in Niagara Falls, N.Y., on September 10, 2009.

Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano will travel to New York City on Friday to honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks by participating in the World Trade Center Site Memorial Ceremony and Remembrance at Zuccotti Park. Secretary Napolitano will also throw out the opening pitch in Friday’s game at Yankee Stadium.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano and General Services Administration (GSA) Acting Administrator Paul Prouty held a ceremonial groundbreaking today to commence consolidation of a new DHS headquarters at the St. Elizabeths Campus.
This project—partially funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)—will create direct employment opportunities for thousands of people in the Washington region while preserving a National Historic Landmark.
