"I was saddened to learn of the crash earlier today that took the life of Mexican Interior Secretary Francisco Blake Mora, along with seven others. Their families are in my thoughts and prayers. Secretary Blake Mora was a strong partner in our common fight against terrorism and transnational crime. His loss will be felt on both sides of the border. President Obama and the Department of Homeland Security remain committed to continuing our close relationship with Mexico in order to enhance the security of both nations."

Statement by Press Secretary Matt Chandler on Secretary Napolitano’s Upcoming Visit to Norway and Sweden

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano will travel to Oslo, Norway, and Stockholm, Sweden, Nov. 14-15, to meet with international partners and discuss the Department’s ongoing collaboration with the two countries on cybersecurity and combating violent extremism and transnational crime. While in Oslo, Secretary Napolitano will meet with the Norweigian Minister of Justice and the Police Knut Storberget, Norwegian Police Security Service Director Janne Kristiansen, and U.S. Ambassador to Norway Barry White, and will offer condolences at the Oslo Cathedral for the victims of the 7/22 bombing and attack on Utoya Island. Later, Secretary Napolitano will join public and private sector partners at an event hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Norway—underscoring the Department’s continued commitment to working with the private sector and international partners to create a safe, secure and resilient cyberspace and secure the global supply chain. Secretary Napolitano will also tour the Norwegian Computer Emergency Response Team facility.

Given the vital role veterans play in advancing the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) mission, Secretary Napolitano set a goal to have 50,000 veterans employed at DHS by the end of 2012. Through a Department-wide effort, Secretary Napolitano announced that this goal was met in FY 2011, more than a year ahead of schedule.
